Dana Crocker

Dana Anne Crocker, 81 of Damariscotta, devoted wife of Sheldon Crocker, passed away peacefully at the Waldo County General Hospital in Belfast, surrounded by her daughter and grandchildren.

She was born and raised in Eureka and Fielder Landing, California. Dana enlisted into the U.S. Navy and served as a Navy WAVE, and met Sheldon Crocker in Olathe, Kansas in June of 1958, and the two were married less than a month later, the beginning of a marriage that lasted 55 years. Together they traveled to duty stations including Willow Grove PA, New River, NC, Cherry Point, NC, Kaneohe, HI

During duty in North Carolina, they adopted their first child, Shawn; and later in their tour in Hawaii, adopted a second son, Daniel, and their daughter, Kathleen. Most of her life was devoted to family and raising her three children. She showed unsurpassable love for her children and grandchildren teaching them kindness, compassion, and respect.

Her passions in life were sewing, cooking and reading. Also, later in life, watching the New England Patriots with her granddaughter Brittney. She belonged to a local quilting group for many years who would quilt for their loved ones and also donate items to children’s hospitals and local charities.

Hours before her passing, when a nurse was told the story of her sacrifices in life and adopting and raising three children, she replied, “so she was basically a Saint.” That is how her family will remember her.

In addition to her parents, James Harris, Sr. & Helen Janikey; she was predeceased by her husband, Sheldon M. Crocker; her two sons, Shawn M. and Daniel J. Crocker; and a brother, James Harris, Jr.

Dana is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Chisholm of Damariscotta; a daughter-in-law, Susan Crocker of Allen, TX; grandchildren, Daniel Crocker, Kristy Hammond, Brittney Hammond, Sarah Bowns, Nicole Crocker, Owen Chisholm, and Devan Kearns; and great-grandchildren, Aiden Zimmerman, Madison Kearns, Summer Kearns, Liam Kearns, and Marlee Kearns; as well as her granddog, Zeke.

Private services will be held at the convenience of her family. Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main Street, Damariscotta, ME. Condolences, and messages for her family, may be expressed by visiting: www.StrongHancock.com.
